An 7.5 HP 3 phase 220v electric motor is installed with belt drive to the shaft providing for "get home" power in the event of a problem with the drive engine. The Onan MDJE-18R diesel generator provides 7.5KW 3 phase power for the get home motor and 5KW single phase for house loads. The get home motor provides steady drive forward at about 5 knots in calm water.

An all new main power panel and associated wiring is installed near the interior helm.

A Statpower Truecharge 40+ battery charger and a separate Mastervolt 12/80 battery charger maintain the batteries from generator or shore power. An inverter provides AC power from the batteries when the Onan generator is not running.

The battery bank includes six 6v "golf cart" batteries arranged as three in parrallel in each box and the two boxes connected in series as one 12v bank for house power and one 8D size main engine starting battery and a separate starting battery for the Onan generator.

The Willard 40 Nomad is a very high quality fiberglass hull with a fiberglass over plywood upper structure built by skilled boat builders in southern California. The design is based on a William Garden double-ended displacement hull intended for sea worthy, economical long distance cruising. The 600 gallon fuel tank gives it well over 2000 nm range and the hull design is intended for safe, offshore passage in any sea condition. This boat is hull #1 of the "400" "wide body" series and has been updated and carefully maintained throughout its life including installation of an articulating rudder and an electric "get home" motor driving the prop shaft. It is in outstanding condition as a contemporary yacht and ready to go to sea.

Tank capacity quoted in this listing is as reported by the owners and as listed in the manufacturers publications. We have not independently verified any tank capacity and make no guaranty of tank capacity. While the boat has been owned by this family, the fuel tank was opened up, access ports installed the tank was thoroughly inspected and cleaned.
