Propulsion is provided by a single 120hp 2715E Ford Lehman diesel engine. This is a six cylinder, fresh water cooled, naturally aspirated Diesel engine. The size of the engine room and removeable overhead hatches allow good access for servicing the engine.
Battery banks line the outboard bulkheads of the engine room. Eight 6V batteries (each pair wired in a series) comprise the house bank. These have been recently replaced. A separate 12V battery is used for starting the engine. A Magnasine 2812 2800 watt inverter charger provides charging and inverting capability. The boat' shore power cord inlet has been upgraded to a Smart Plug.
Port and starboard fuel tanks are plumbed to each other and the engine through a fuel distribution manifold. A Gulf Coast Model F-1 Fuel filter removes impurities.
A Webasto diesel hydronic heater provides cabin heating and heats water. The hydronic system is also plumbed to a heat exchanger on the engine for efficient heat and hot water while underway.

General description from the builder:
"Universal Trawlers are classic offshore cruising vessels. The hand laid fiberglass hull provides confidence in hull integrity with the beams and bows to handle offshore seas. Hard chine, deep skeg, and a sea kindly hull handle to a seaman's standard. The fuel and water capacity invite an extended cruise that only diesel economy can provide. The main salon is designed for entertainment as well as family cruising comfort. The warmth of the true teak will be a source of continuing pleasure for you and your guests."
The cabin and hull are of fiberglass construction. Decks are of teak construction atop FRP laminate. Cap rails and exterior window frames are also of teak construction.
The last haul out was in November 2022 for application of new bottom paint.
Fuel tanks are constructed from painted steel. Water tanks are constructed of stainless steel. The holding tank is constructed from FRP.

This Universal tri-cabin 36 trawler is boarded through an opening rail amidships. Upon boarding, a companionway door provides access to the cabin. Full walk around side decks lead to the bow and stern.
The vessel is divided into three living areas. The main cabin contains a galley, settee, and the lower helm station. The galley is to starboard and contains a Novakool refrigerator, sink, Force10 propane range and oven, and many drawers and cabinets for storage. The settee is located to port, and and L shaped seating area surrounds a saloon table that can be folded out for company or folded up when not in use. This cabin, like the rest of the boat, feels warm and comfortable owing to the quality teak joinery, beams, and cabinetry used throughout. The helm station is located forward of the galley, and a half height door provides quick access to the starboard side deck from the helm.
The forward cabin is located a few steps down from the main cabin. This cabin is configured with a V-berth arrangement that will sleep two. This cabin, like the aft cabin, has its own dedicated head compartment. An overhead hatch and port lights provide light and fresh air and a hanging locker offers storage options.
The aft cabin is also located a few steps down and aft from the main cabin. A full size berth is located to the port side of this space. This space also contains a desk, a substantial amount of storage in the form of a hanging locker, drawers, and cabinets, open space, a head compartment complete with shower/bath, a separate entrance / exit to the aft deck. Large windows to port and starboard provide plenty of natural lighting making this a fine master cabin.
The flybridge is incredibly comfortable and useable owing to the 270 degree enclosure and canvas bimini. Bench seating, facing fore and aft, can easily seat 8. The upper helm station is well equipped with recently updated Raymarine navigation electronics.

Broker's Comments
4 VIRTUAL TOURS - 1 VIDEO - 116 PHOTOS - FULL SPECS & BROKER'S COMMENTS CAN BE VIEWED OF THIS UNIVERSAL 36 TRAWLER!
This is heavily built, full displacement, fiberglass trawler constructed in the Universal boat yard, Taiwan. This yard later built the "Ocean Alexander" series of yachts and is known for quality construction
I am always impressed by the amount of interior living space and features that the popular tri-cabin trawler designs possess: two staterooms and two heads, with a roomy salon in between. This Universal 36 is rich in warm inviting teak, inside and out. Moored under cover, the exterior of this vessel is in fine condition.
With substantial tankage of fuel and water, Ford Lehman Diesel engine, and solid hand laid fiberglass hull construction, this vessel would have made a fine cruiser as equipped from the factory. A number of thoughtful improvements over the years have improved on that foundation. The heating system has been upgraded to a Webasto diesel hydronic furnace. The inverter/charger was recently replaced with a MagnaSine 2812 unit, updated Raymarine navigation electronics complement the upper and lower helm station, and a bimini and clear isinglass panels allow the flybridge to be enjoyed and piloted from in all weather conditions.
This is an attractive and well-equipped trawler for cruising locally or further afield. She is also well-configured for liveaboard applications.
