The Electro-Motive-Division of General Motors introduced this engine model in 1965 with its intended use being for locomotives, marine applications and stationary uses. It is a 12 cylinder, air start turbocharged engine.
The engine was inspected at survey by the Haven Boat Works mechanic in Port Townsend. He reported little to no wear visible in the main engine and that it appears to be in excellent condition with relatively low hours. The engine is connected to a 9" diameter shaft with pillow blocks. It is reported to produce 1300 hp at 1100 rpm.

The TP–class tugs were all purpose support vessels used in towing and tendering and general utility work for the US Army. 43 TP's were constructed all with low power as a wartime economy measure and almost all were sold into commercial use after the war ended. They were 91.4’ x 14.10’ with 450hp Fairbanks–Morse six cylinder engines. Built with 12" x 14" deck beams on 18" centers and 12" x 14" ribs. All hull planks were through bolted and the hull treated with coal oil and sheathed in ironwood. All had extra cabins with a large 40 ton capacity hold in the stern. It has been told that this particular T/P was used to tow barges to and from Hawaii during WWII. Following the war it was used by several commercial Tug companies in Oregon and Washington. A 1000 gallon ballast tank had been converted to a holding tank. There is a deck level fitting for pump out and an electric pump with macerator for overboard discharge.

Starting in the Pilothouse - there are doors port and starboard to outer upper decks. Aft and down two steps is the master double cabin with in-suite head / shower. There are two access doors to the outer deck and a stairway down to the fiddly. Forward in the fiddly are four crew cabins that sleep two each in upper and lower bunks. Each of two cabins shares a head. A stair way leads down to the engine room and access to the bilge areas. The fiddly contains a washer and dryer with two access doors to the side decks. Heading aft through the companionway is the galley that is athwart ship with dutch doors at each end. The galley features a large double sink, trash compactor, dishwasher, full size refrigerator with freezer, propane stove with oven, and a microwave. There is ample counter space with many built in cupboards for storage. A dinning area sits aft of the galley followed by the main saloon with large windows, a wood fireplace and door to the aft deck. The original aft towing windlass has been removed from the aft deck to accommodate the extended main saloon.
