Broker's Comments
Wow! is not a term that would often use with a genuine Broads classic boat from the late 1950's, however this boat definitely earns that statement! (See new note following recent Inspection below )
***** update she is due her lift out for bi-annual maintenance over the 2021-2022 winter period. A recent underwater inspection revealed that some repair work will be required on the hull and so the asking price has been significantly reduced with this in mind****
The boat remains in use for the rest of the season.
This is a genuinely stunningly and well looked after and updated Porter and Haylett Astroline 28 from 1958. You would be forgiven for thinking she was a recent retro build in a classic style.
The boat has clearly had loving and caring owners and more could not be said of her current owners of the last 6 years. Not only have they maintained this beautiful and very spacious boat to the utmost degree, they have also thoughtfully and sympathetically added many improvements that compliment her charm and style perfectly.
Her reliability has been assured with a Brand new Nanni Diesel 4.38 being fitted in 2018 with just 185 fully serviced and maintained hours since!
The owners only use the boat 5 or 6 times a year due to how far away they live, and having just moved further away to Cumbria the time has come to sell their beloved classic boat.
She has had no expense spared in her regular maintenance and upkeep and most of the work has been carried out by local and well respected classic boat expert Tim Waters. She has her broads toll paid for this year and a current Boat Safety Scheme Certificate that expires October 2021. However the owner will have a fresh BSS put on her for the new owner once the sale is agreed to maximise the 4 year validity for the new owner. The beautiful mooring (in one of the most desirable and pretty sections of the Norfolk Broads) where she currently is, may also be available by separate negotiation with the marina as the owner is giving up boating in this area.
The exterior of this wonderful boat all appears to be in good condition and very well maintained with no soft deck areas noted. The light and bright interior is a sunning place to spend time and has an open plan feel with the saloon sweeping into the large cockpit / wheelhouse with aft bathing platform . The very good sized heads compartment with large shower, basin and electric pump out toilet if very attractive and practical, and is opposite the galley amidships. The galley is very well laid out and in the mid section of the vessel. Forward of that is a dedicated separate twin berth cabin that oozes cosy comfort and style with fantastic varnished wood on display everywhere you look. The large saloon seating converts to a huge double berth officering sleeping options for 4 with ease. Everywhere you look the wood glows with the loving care and beauty that only well cared for wood can. It is simply a sunning, quality and cosy place to spend time. The cabinetry is all solid and just as charming right down to the last door. Her period art deco lights a re a charm in themselves and this boat is sure to whisk you away to a charming and more relaxing era but with the added benefits of all mod cons under the skin.
Traditional style "Rennai" instant gas heater water heater is complimented by a fully pressurised hot water system via engine heated calorifier as per any modern boat. Her large Webasto diesel heating (new 2016) makes her a comfortable all year cruiser too. New Voyager gas cooker (2017), Waeco Fridge (2017), Teak and holly wheelhouse floor (2018), domestic water pump (2020) the list goes on and on. A Small inverter plus shore power deliver mains capability whether she is moored up or out on the river and the new engine ensures a smooth, economical and reliable boat that responds well. I can not enthuse more highly about this particular boat, as the above technical items just cannot deliver the feeling of old world charm and relaxation blended seamlessly with the comfort of more modern facilities being on hand. Make no mistake, this is a very special and very spacious well looked after boat offers. She has to be seen to be fully appreciated and understand just how much she has to offer.
*It has been confirmed that her incredible mooring in the heart of Horning, is available to her new owner (mooring fee to be paid by new owner) and this is most likley one of the most exclusive and tranquil moorings in this popular broadland village!
