Meridian Trawler Yachts (not to be confused with the more-recent Meridian line of production yachts) were "overbuilt" with thick fiberglass on the hull and deck to create a very stout yacht. With its bulletproof hull and flared bow with Portuguese bridge, it has excellent sea-keeping abilities. This fuel-efficient trawler has massive amounts of interior space and a large, enclosed cockpit. The pilothouse is well designed with a custom-built L-shaped settee and excellent visibility from the helm.
There were 13 of these Meridans built in Southern California in the 70's. Blaine Seeley, a well-known marine architect and designer designed this boat and managed its construction. It is a semi-displacement hull and is a proven long range cruiser.
The hull material is hand laid fiberglass coring and a fiberglass deck. The design features a pronounced bow flare and a sharp entry, plus a keel depth under the pilothouse of almost three feet.
Some of the other models built include a fire boat in Long Beach and several commercial fishing boats.

The Meridan has some great design features. The widebody aft section supplies easy one level access to the saloon and galley. With a completely enclosed aft deck it's like having another living area.
The galley supplies a lot of storage area with an open breakfast or dining bar. It includes a combination micowave and convection Air oven, plus the three burner propane stove.
It is three steps up to the pilothouse which also supplies a large seating area plus a pilot berth. With double doors to the fore deck and the Portuguese bridge, a large seating area is available for good weather and a lot of protection in bad.
Going forward from the pilothouse into the forward sleeping area there is a curved staircase down. The master stateroom is beneath the pilothouse which provides plenty of room for a large head/shower plus extra hanging locker space. The present owner discovered additional hanging locker space under the stair case. The forward guest stateroom has an oversized v-berth with its own head and shower.

Broker's Comments
This Meridian 48 Pilothouse has been maintained extremely well -- interior, exterior and mechanical. It is a great one or two couple cruising boat.
I have extensive personal experience with Blaine Seeley-designed boats and have found them to be very seaworthy, with thoughtful, roomy and comfortable interiors.
