There is a 500 gallon copper fuel tank in the bow with two tanks in the aft lazarette used as day tanks. The fuel can be transferred by 4 ea. Winco pumps.
The engines were installed in the mid 50's with a rebuild in 1992. The engines were started for me and they started with no hesitation and ran exceptionally smooth and quiet.
Propellers are 28" X 28" 3 blade bronze R.H. starboard shaft and L.H. port shaft.
Bronze spade rudders port and starboard with a wooden rudder amidship.
Keel cooler for freshwater cooling system.
Kubota 10 KW Diesel generator.

Sails

There are two masts. Wooden fore-mast is stepped to the main deck in the pilothouse. Aft mast is aluminum, contains the engine exhaust stack and is stepped to the flybridge deck. The aft mast has a yardarm with a new 12 volt winch, which can be used to load supplies.

Engine supports are 3 1/4 " X 6" X 82" fir doubled.
Planking below waterline 2" fir.

The hull is divided into four compartments by way of three transverse non-watertight bulkheads.
Pilothouse is accessed via two sliding side doors (with screens) and an aft door. #1 helm is forward to port. To starboard is the stairway for forward access to the below deck quarters. Aft of the helm is the main salon with generous seating and a very spacious table with seating for eight.
Below deck is the forepeak chain locker accessed by deck hatch. Forward cabin stairway landing with fuel tank beneath. Forward stateroom has starboard enclosed hanging locker and centerline passageway. Master stateroom has full walkaround bed with a possible double berth across the room.
Moving toward the stern is the centerline passageway to the engine room It has port and starboard engines, work room, boiler, and laundry facility with a stairway to the aft break deck.
The boiler is more than adequate to heat the boat and keep it very dry. It heats water for the radiator system throughout the the boat. The boat has zone thermostats for the below deck and the upper pilothouse.
This vessel is very warm and dry, with no odor, and is kept very clean and shows owner pride.

Designed by Henry J Gielow and built in Anderson Shipyard in Lake Washington. Launched in 1908 as a private yacht, Tusitala has been very well-cared for by her subsequent owners. She was awarded “Best Liveaboard” at the 23rd Annual Classic Boat Festival, and is a lifetime member of the Princess Louisa Society.
