The hull on the Ponderosa is solid hand-laid fiberglass with plywood bulkheads. The superstructure is also hand laid and cored with fiberglass laminates. The hull is hard chine with moderate deadrise and a deep keel.

This is one of the many solid boats built in the Chuing Hwa yard in Taiwan. There are some minor underwater blisters. The last survey stated that the blisters should be monitored for any change. At that time they were a cosmetic situation only.

The bottom was cleaned and painted in May of last year and the boot top was also repainted.
The main head is electric and the forward head is manual. The owner kept one head as manual in case there was a loss of power.

This is the traditional tri-cabin sundeck model. The fully enclosed sun deck provides a large living area with table and deck chairs. It also has a great wet bar with storage.

The two side doors provide easy access to the wide catwalk and foredeck. A single starboard side door gets you into the main cabin. This is a great lounging area in cool weather but the sun deck is much larger and closer to the large flybridge seating area. When underway the bridge is the place to be. Back inside the main salon there is a complete lower station helm and lounge chairs.

Stepping down into the galley you find the dinette which also converts to a double bed. Being close to the galley this is the preferred dining area for two to four people. The galley is well set up with a large sink, 3 burner propane stove with oven and separate microwave. The refrigerator, which was replaced about 3 years ago, is a NovaKool with separate freezer. The NovaKool is a preferred unit due to the freezer being on the bottom and the compressor has a longer life than other brands.

Forward of the galley is the forward or guest stateroom. It has two bunks but the upper is almost queen size. It has it's own head and shower.

Moving back up the sundeck, it's three steps to the flybridge. This is a great living area. There is a bench seat on the port side and an L-shaped seat with a small table. The centerline helm seat has a companion seat as well. The centerline windshield is a special insert that is glass and has its own wiper. One of the problems of most enclosures is the bad visibility in rain. Problem solved.

The sundeck FRP cover provides a dinghy storage area with deck crane.

Broker's Comments

This Ponderosa 42 Sundeck is a very well-kept vessel. It's ideal for liveaboards due to the large amount of storage space and a very open interior. The seller has been very attentive to the boat's care. Bottom paint, new electronics, new electrical systems and engine work top the list of recent projects.

The Perkins diesel engines are easy to work on and parts are available. The Westerbeke generator has also been well-maintained and is easy to access for service.

Please take a close look at this well-built trawler.
