Broker's Comments
This is a delightful opportunity to buy not just a boat, but a slice of local history and community, as the mooring is on the site of Talbot Brothers Barge Boats Construction and Repair Yard for lighters
This is a stunning and highly unusual Thames Lighter houseboat with its own private mooring at Rotherhithe. The surrounding area has a villagey feel of old-fashioned community, with leafy backstreets and a stunning local pub. The mooring is but a few minutes' walk from tubes and buses, and is in the delightful area of old Rotherhithe, close to the church and shops.
Above decks, there is a large outdoor space with stunning views across, up and down the River Thames. At low tide there is a beach literally on the doorstep.
The boat is currently split into two apartments - one on each of the two decks. This configuration presents several options, but at present there is the possibility of generating a healthy income from one or both apartments. (Please bear in mind that the photos here show only the lower living space).
The boat is connected to shoreside mains electricity, water and sewage and comes with a 25 year (negotiable) lease on the mooring. The site has a caretaker service if required and a sympathetic development plan is in place to enhance the sense of community and history over the next 5 years or so.
